Atlantic Blue Crab – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Atlantic Blue Crab:
The Atlantic or Chesapeake Blue Crab is species of crab native to the coastal waters of the western Atlantic Ocean. It can also be found on the Pacific Ocean in Central America and the Gulf of Mexico. It has also been introduced into many areas it is not native to, due to it being a valuable food source. Adult Blue Crabs grow to just a little over nine inches (23 centimeters) and weigh roughly 1-2 pounds. (.5 to .9 kilograms) Blue Crabs are usually found in the brackish waters along the coastline, often in estuaries and other areas along shorelines. They feed on many different types of food, such as snails, mussels, fish, plants, and other smaller crustaceans. These invertebrates are very sensitive to environmental changes, and in some areas have seen steep reductions in number due to pollution and habitat loss. It is the offician crustacean of the state of Maryland in the US. Atlantic Horseshoe Crab – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Atlantic Horseshoe Crab:
The Atlantic Horseshoe Crab is a arthropod of the Xiphosura, which are a group of marine chelicerates, which are a group of animals that are mostly extinct, and in fact there are only four recent living members. Limulus polyphemus, along with the other horseshoe crabs, have hardly changed in millions of years. As the name makes clear, this arthropod is found in the coastal areas of the Atlantic Ocean. They feed on mollusks, annelid worms, and other invertebrates. The crabs have three main parts to their bodies: the head region or 'prosoma,' the abdominal region or 'opisthosoma' and the spine-like tail or 'telson'. Horseshoe crabs have the rare ability to regrow limbs they have lost. Baltimore Checkerspot Butterfly – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Baltimore Checkerspot Butterfly:
The Baltimore Checkerspot Butterfly is a smaller butterfly native to north central and north eastern regions of North America. It prefers areas that have abundant wet meadows that have the White Turtlehead (Chelone glabra) plant, which it is dependent on as a food source and place to reproduce. This striking butterfly gets it name not from the city in Maryland but that it has the same orange and black colors found on the crest for the American Colonist and the Maryland state flag. The butterfly has seen it's number decrease over the years due to development of the land it depends on to reproduce, and an overpopulation of White-Tailed deer who feed on the White Turtlehead plant. In 1973 the Baltimore Checkerspot Butterfly was officially selected as the state Butterfly of Maryland in the US. Bay Area Blond Tarantula – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Bay Area Blond Tarantula:
The Bay Area Blond Tarantula is of the genus Aphonopelma. They are large arachnids, with legspans up to 7-8 inches long. They're found in arid, dry areas generally burrowing down during the day and hunting at night. Although during mating season tarantula males can be found roaming around during the day in search of a female. While the Bay Area Blond Tarantula is venomous, the poison isn't extremely harmful to humans and generally the spider will rarely bite unless provoked. Tarantulas are carnivores feeding on smaller arthropods and insects. They cannot digest the animal, so the spider will secrete digestive enzymes which turns the animal basically into liquid form, which the tarantula will then ingest using it's mouthparts like a straw.
