The insects and invertebrates that live in and around the ponds of the world are as fascinating as they are varied. From snails, diving beetles, various larvae of aquatic and non-aquatic species, dragonflies and others make up an amazing ecosystem filled with diversity and complex interactions.
Many insects spend their entire lives in or around the pond, whereas other only come to the pond to lay eggs or find prey to feed on. Along with the larger invertebrates, several types of aquatic macroinvertebrates live in the pond and are born, develop through the various stages of life which make up much of the biological goop that is distinctive to all freshwater ponds.
