Muskrat – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Muskrat:

The Muskrat is the only species in the genus Ondatra. It is a medium-sized semi-aquatic rodent native to the the swamps, bogs and other wetland areas. Like the American Beaver, it too has an effect on the ecology of the areas in which it lives. Despite the name, it is not a "true rat" but rather a relative. It is more closely related to lemmings and voles. Adult Muskrat grow to be about 16–28 inches long (40–70 cm) - almost half of that tail and weighing roughly 1.3–4.4 pounds (0.6–2 kg.) These small mammals are often found in the habitat as beavers, and they also have many of the same behaviors, such as felling trees by chewing through them and building dens. The Muskrat is an especially adaptable animal, and will often exploit areas altered by humans (canals, drainage ditches) to make homes. While they are only native to parts of North America, they have been introduced into much of the entire continent and Europe and have established themselves in these areas.
