Sea Lemon – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Sea Lemon:

The Sea Lemon is a nudibranch, usually growing to about 1-3 inches (25-75mm) but is can grow much larger. This species may produce a lot of sweet, fruity-smelling mucus when disturbed, and this will cause some predators to release them. They are native to coastal waters from Kodiak Island, Alaska to Isla Coronados in Baja, California. These gastropods are common in low intertidal, on rocky shores and in and around harbor pilings. This is the largest of California nudibranchs. It has a penetrating, fruity odor, which may be used to fend off predators. It feeds on a variety of sponges. It may also ingest quantities of organic detritus. Studies show that individual nudibranchs are conservative in their food habits; they tend to keep eating the same food species, even if they are transferred to other sites. Spawning period varies with location, but extend for several months. The mating is reciprocal; partners may be of vastly different size. Buy a Digital Download

Semipalmated Plover – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Semipalmated Plover:

The Semipalmated Plover is a smaller native wading bird found in and around tidal flats and fields. It spends winters on mudflats, salt marshes, and lakeshores along the West Coast from Washington south to coastal Mexico, along the southern Atlantic Coast, the Gulf Coast, and the West Indies. They're smaller birds, weighing on about 0.78–2.22 oz (22–63 g) measuring 5.5–7.9 inches long (14–20 cm) with a wingspan of 14–22 inches (35–56 cm.) They are migratory and winter in coastal areas of the southern United States, the Caribbean and much of South America.Their true status may be obscured by the difficulty in identifying them from the very similar ringed plover of Eurasia, of which it was formerly considered a subspecies. Semipalmated plovers forage for food on beaches, tidal flats and fields, usually by sight. They eat insects, crustaceans and worms. This bird resembles the killdeer but is much smaller and has only one band. The term "semipalmated" refers to its partly webbed feet. Since the semipalmated plover nests on the ground, it uses a "broken-wing" display to lure intruders away from the nest, in a display similar to the related killdeer. Sharp-Shinned Hawk – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Sharp-Shinned Hawk:

The Sharp-Shinned Hawk is the smallest hawk to reside in North America. The males are 9.1 to 12 inches long (23 to 30 cm) with a wingspan of 17 to 23 inches (42 to 58 cm. They generally weigh 2.9–4.1 ounces (82–115 g.) There are four sub species of hawk, all found a widespread area of North America, Central America, South America and the Greater Antilles. The bird can usually be found in woodlands and forests with the presence of conifers and by various types of broad-leaved trees such as oak. They are opportunistic hunters, and will feed upon almost any small animal it finds suitable, such as lizards, rodents, frogs, snakes and large insect. It attacks it's prey by surprise, emerging from cover or flying through dense vegetation. In the 60s and 70s the numbers of these birds declined in most of it's native range - likely due to the use of the pesticide DDT - but in most areas the hawk has rebounded and it's numbers are stable.
