The Spectacled Caiman - also called the White Caiman or Common Caiman - is a large reptile native to the wetlands, rainforests and flooded forests of much of Central and South America. It can survive in fresh and saltwater, or a combination of the two (called brackish water) and because of this adaptability it is the most common of the crocodilian species in the world. Adult males grow to be about 5.9 to 6.6 feet (1.8 to 2 meters) weighing 15 and 88 pounds (7 and 40 kilograms.) Females are generally a little smaller. The caiman is one of the top predators in it's environment, and it will feed on insects, small invertebrates, crustaceans and mollusks when it is young, and when it grow larger it will eat fish and even mammals such as forest pigs.
