Weddell Seal – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Ribbon Seal:

The Ribbon Seal is a medium-sized pinniped from the true seal family (Phocidae). A seasonally ice-bound species, it is found in the Arctic and Subarctic regions of the North Pacific Ocean, notably in the Bering Sea and Sea of Okhotsk. It is distinguished by its striking coloration, with two wide white strips and two circles against dark brown or black fur. It is the only living species in the genus Histriophoca. The ribbon seal lives in the Arctic parts of the Pacific Ocean. During winter and spring, it hauls out on pack ice to breed, molt, and give birth. During this time, it is found at the ice front in the Bering and Okhotsk Seas. During the summer and autumn, the ribbon seal lives in open water, though some move north as the ice recedes with warmer temperatures. Little is known about its habit during this time, as it is so far from land and human observation. The ribbon seal almost never comes to land.

Weedy Sea Dragon – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Weedy Sea Dragon:

The Weedy Sea Dragon is an ocean fish related to the seahorse. It is the only member of the genus Phyllopteryx. This fish is found in the coastal waters of Australia, usually in and around reefs. The name comes from the camouflage of their bodies which mimic the plants of the seabeds where they live. They are about 17 inches long (45 cm) Weedy Sea Dragons, like seahorses, are the only know animals in which the male carries the eggs. However, the sea dragon lacks the prehensile tail the seahorse has. Sea dragons feed on small mysid shrimp called 'sea-lice', plankton and tiny fish. They don't possess teeth so they eat by sucking in small amounts of water along with their prey.

West Indian Ocean Coelacanth – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the West Indian Ocean Coelacanth:

The West Indian Ocean Coelacanth is one of two extant species of coelacanth. This fish is well known for being a "living fossil" as one was found in 1938, and was a commonly held belief that the animal had gone extinct millions of years ago. They are large fish, growing to over six feet (three meters) weighing about 200 pounds (80 kilograms) Because the coelacanth is such an ancient life form, they are more closely related to lungfish, reptiles and mammals they are are to the common ray-finned fish. The fish is so rare that when Hendrik Goosen, the captain of the trawler Nerine who discovered the coelacanth would have to look for a decade to find another one. The species is considered critically endangered and there may be a few as 500 individuals in the wild.

Western Bluebird – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Western Bluebird:

The Western Bluebird is a medium-sized thrush. They're native to the open grasslands of western North America, usually adjacent to forests or small stands of trees. Their range is from southern British Columbia down into central Mexico, with much of the population concentrated along the California coastline. These passerine birds feed on insects such as beetles, caterpillars and spiders, but will also eat berries and other plant matter. At one time the Western Bluebird was considered threatened, but now this has reversed and the bird is actually expanding it's range, perhaps due to it's ability to adapt to areas where forests have been cleared and grasslands have taken their place.

Western Camel – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Western Camel:

The Western Camel is a member of the genus of Camelops, which were camels that once inhabited much of western North America up until the end of the Pleistocene, which ended some 10,00 years ago. While much is known about how this camel might have lived because of the close relation to extant camels (the Bactrian and the Arabian) is it unclear just why this animal went extinct, along with nearly all of the Pleistocene megafauna on various continents around the world. While many models of this extinction are based much on the arrival of hunting humans into the area, it does not account fully for why nearly all of the large land mammals - save for Africa - went extinct.
