Information about the Desert Box Turtle:

The Desert Box Turtle is a member of the family Emydidae, which are the pond turtles or marsh turtles, or box turtles. This small reptiles is native to arid and semi-arid regions from the Trans-Pecos area of Texas, New Mexico, and southeastern Arizona in the United States and south into Sonora and Chihuahua in Mexico. The Desert Box Turtle is omnivorous and will feed on vegetation, insects and even carrion if it's able to find it. The turtle will also root around in cow dung looking for beetles to feed on. This box turtle, like all of the related species are highly prized as pets and are often collected and kept in captivity. However, since 2005 it was declared a protected species in Arizona and can no longer be collected.

The Desert Cardinal or Pyrrhuloxia is a medium-sized member of the order of Passeriformes. It is native to the deserts and scrublands of the southwestern parts of North America. It is one of only three birds of the genus Cardinalis, with the Northern and Vermillion Cardinals being the other two. These birds go to lengths of about 8.3 inches (21 cm) with an the average weight is 0.8–1.5 ounces (24–43 g). Both males and females are about the same size. Pyrrhuloxia does not generally migrate, but spends the year round in the dry deserts and mesquite thickets, where it feeds on fruits, seed and insects. The bird gets it's distinctive name "Pyrrhuloxia" from a combination of the genus names Pyrrhula (bullfinches) and Loxia (crossbills). The roots mean "flame-colored" and "crooked," and accurately describe the bright reddish gray bird with the crooked bill. The Desert Cottontail Rabbit - also sometimes called Audubon's Cottontail - is a small mammal native to the dry near-desert grasslands and forest of the western United States; from eastern Montana to western Texas, and in northern and central Mexico and westwards from central Nevada and southern California and into Baja California. They look a great deal like the European Rabbit, but the ears of Sylvilagus audubonii are usually larger and held upright more often. They also do not inhabit large social warrens like their European relatives. The Desert Horned Viper, is also called the Saharan Horned Viper, African Desert Horned Viper and Asp - is a venomous snake native to the deserts of Northern Africa and parts of the Middle East. It often is easily recognized by the presence of a pair of "horns" (although hornless individuals do occur.) The average total length including body + tail is 12-24 inches (30–60 cm), with a maximum total length of 33 inches (85 cm). Females are generally larger than the males.
