The Magnificent Frigatebird is a member of the order Suliformes. In the past the bird was sometimes called the Man O'War or Man of War. Which was a reflection on it aerial piracy of other birds. The bird is widespread in the tropical Atlantic, breeding colonially in trees in Florida, the Caribbean and Cape Verde Islands. It also breeds along the Pacific coast of the Americas from Mexico to Ecuador including the Galápagos Islands. The Magnificent Frigatebird is about 40 inches long (100 cm)with an 85 inch wingspan (215 cm). Males are all-black with a scarlet throat pouch that is inflated like a balloon in the breeding season. Females are black, but have a white breast and lower neck sides, a brown band on the wings, and a blue eye-ring that is diagnostic of the female of the species. The Magnificent Frigatebird feeds mainly on fish, and also attacks other seabirds to force them to disgorge their meals. Frigatebirds never land on water, and always take their food items in flight. As the name implies, the frog has the ability to spread it's large toepads to control a fall and glide from tree to tree. It is an arboreal species of tropical moist evergreen forest, deciduous forest, secondary forests and coffee plantations. It is present in the lower canopy and understory levels of the forest. It breeds in vegetation overhanging ponds, and the tadpoles develop in the pools. While the frog, like many of the worlds amphibians, is on the decline due to habitat loss, climate change and pollution, it is not considered endangered. The Malayan Tiger is a subspecies of tiger native to the dense forested areas of the Malay Peninsula. It was not classified as a subspecies until 2004. There are thought to be only about 600-800 of these large cats in the wild, and few in captivity. While these numbers may seem small, it is the most abundant tiger in the wild, second only to the Bengal Tiger and perhaps the Indo-Chinese tiger. This tiger, along with the Sumatran Tiger, is perhaps the smallest of the subspecies, with adult males weighing about 260 pounds (120 kg) and the females being slightly smaller. Malayan Tigers are apex predators - which means they are at the top of the food chain and are not preyed upon by other animals. They feed on the more common rainforest animals such as wild boar, tapir, barking deer, and even sun bear cubs and elephant calves. The scientific name of the tiger has created some controversy, as it was originally named after tiger specialist Peter Jackson, but Malaysia protested this demanding the name should reflect the geographical region instead.
