The Northern Flicker is a medium sized New World woodpecker. It's native to the much of North and Central America, Cuba and the Cayman Islands. They have a very distinctive call , which have resulted in there being 100 or so names and nick-names for the bird. Northern Flickers feed on plant matter such as berries, fruits, seeds and nuts. But their primary food source are small invertebrates and insects. There are 5 subspecies of Northern Flicker with the most common being the Yellow-shafted Flicker and the Red-shafted Flicker.
