The Lark Bunting is medium-sized sparrow, and the only member of the genus Calamospiza. It is generally found in the Great Plains of North America, from central Canada southwards to most of Texas and into Mexico. The habitat they prefer is prairies, meadows, brushy areas sometime with sagebush and arid desert regions. Both sexes grow to about 5.5–7.1 inches in length (14–18 centimeters) with a wingspan of about 11 inches (28 centimeters) and weight 1.1–1.8 ounces ( 30–51 grams) When in breeding colors, the males are a dramatic black and brown with streaks of white on the wings and body.
