The Common Wombat - also called the Coarse-Haired Wombat or Bare-Nosed wombat, is a marsupial native to the cooler and better watered parts of southern and eastern Australia, including Tasmania. They are one of three extant species of wombat. Adults grow to be about 40 inches long (98 cm) weighing roughly 58 pounds (26 kg.) They are vary adaptable animals and can be found in many different types of environments, such as rainforest, eucalyptus forest, woodland, alpine grassland and coastal areas. They are herbivores, feeding on grass, tussock and other plants. They are mostly solitary and do much of their feeding at night.
