The Tennessee Cave Salamander is a member of the Plethodontidae family, which are lungless salamanders found mostly in the Western Hemisphere, from British Columbia all the way south to Brazil (however there are a few species in Europe and South Korea.) Gyrinophilus palleucus is native to the central United States, living in cave systems throughout central Tennessee, northern Alabama, and northwestern Kentucky. As the name implies, these amphibians are usually found in sinkhole-type caves or phreatic cave systems in the vicinity of sinkholes. This association is due to the nutrients that flow into these systems and the prey base they support. There are two subspecies: G. p. palleucus and G. p. necturoides.The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
