Information about the Pine Barrens Treefrog:
The Pine Barrens Tree Frog is a one of the smaller species of the New World tree frogs, usually measuring only about 1-3 inches long. This amphibian is usually found in brushy areas, near ponds or in peat bogs or marshes. Compared to the more widespread Green Tree Frog this has fairly limited distribution in the states of New Jersey, North and South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Pine Barrens tree frog feed on small invertebrates such as flies, slugs, moths, snails, beetles and butterflies. Due to habitat loss, usually the draining of ponds and swamps that the frog needs to breed, only three main concentrations of the Pine Barrens Tree Frog remain in the wild, the largest of which is in the state of New Jersey.
