Sloth Bear – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Sloth Bear:

The Sloth Bear - also called the the Stickney bear or labiated bear - is a nocturnal insectivorous species of bears found wild within the Indian Subcontinent. The sloth bear evolved from ancestral brown bears during the Pleistocene and shares features found in insect-eating mammals through convergent evolution. The population isolated in Sri Lanka is considered as a subspecies. Unlike brown and black bears, sloth bears have lankier builds, long, shaggy coats that form a mane around the face, long, sickle-shaped claws, and a specially adapted lower lip and palate used for sucking insects. Sloth bears breed during spring and early summer and give birth near the beginning of winter. They feed on termites, honeybee colonies, and fruits. Sloth bears sometimes attack humans who encroach on their territories. Historically, humans have drastically reduced their habitat and diminished their population by hunting them for food and products such as their bacula and claws. These bears have been used as performing pets due to their tameable nature.

Somali Wild Donkey – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Somali Wild Donkey:

The Somali Wild Donkey is a sub-species of the African Wild Donkey. It is a critically endangered equine, and is found in only very remote areas of the Southern Red Sea region of Eritrea, the Afar Region of Ethiopia. It is not known for certain, but there may be some small population still in Somalia. It is believed that there are less than 1,000 in the wild. Hunting, interbreeding with domestic animals and decreasing access to food and water in a very harsh climate has pushed this animal to the brink of extinction. There are roughly 200 animals in captivity around the world and active breeding programs are ongoing. South China Tiger – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the South China Tiger:

The South China Tiger was a species that once was native to the provinces of Fujian, Guangdong, Hunan, Jiangxi in southern China. While the species is not extinct - there are some 30 animals in captivity - it is all but sure that the tiger is extinct in the wild. Of the six subspecies of extant tiger, the South China Tiger is considered a "stem" tiger, meaning that it could be closest to where the tiger originated. While many factors contributed to the decline of the tiger, the exploitation of the species by the fur trade along with the loss of habitat in it's native range likely led to it's extirpation in the wild. While there has been aggressive conservation projects launched by the Chinese, some conservation groups have argued that the money and efforts would be better used to save the Siberian Tiger, which they consider to have a much greater chance of survival than this rare cat.
