Tasmanian Devil – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Tasmanian Devil:
The Tasmanian Devil is a carnivorous mammal native to the Australian island of Tasmania. When the Thylacine when extinct in 1936 it became the world's largest carnivorous marsupial. It is roughly the size of a small dog, weighing about 18 pounds (8 kg.) Males are usually a little larger than the females. At this time they are only found on the island of Tasmania, although it in the past they were known to inhabit some of the smaller islands nearby. They Tasmanian Devil is mostly nocturnal, hunting for prey around the twilight hours. They do, however, like to sun bathe and are often observed laying on their bellies during the daylight hours. They are good hunters and can take down prey larger than themselves such as smaller kangaroo. They prefer to eat wombats though, but will also feed on roadkill should they find it. Due to habitat loss and an aggressive disease that is nearly always fatal the Tasmanian Devil's numbers in the wild have dropped precipitously and are now considered endangered. Virginia Opossum – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Virginia Opossum:
The Virginia Opossum, also called the North American Opossum, is found throughout areas east of the Rocky Mountains, south from Ontario and down well into Central America. There is also a population that has been introduced into California. The are the only marsupial native to North America and the largest living member of it's genus. Opossums are opportunistic feeds, and will feed on plant matter, carrion and insects. If the animal feels threatened, it will bear it's teeth, hissing and screeching. If it feel sufficiently threatened it will feign death or 'play possum', which is now understood to be an involuntary reaction to fear. During this coma like state, the animal will lay on it's side with it's tongue out and discharge a foul fluid discouraging predators. Yellow-Footed Rock-Wallaby – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Yellow-Footed Rock Wallaby:
The Yellow-Footed Rock Wallaby - formerly called the Ringtailed Wallaby - is a member of the macropod family, which is the family or marsupial which includes kangaroos, wallabies, tree-kangaroos, and wallaroos. These animals are found in a very small area of New South Wales in Australia. As the name implies, this wallaby tends to favor rocky outcrops, usually as far from human habitation as possible. The discovery of this species was fairly recent, and was recorded for the first time in 1964. In 1979 the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife purchased 100 square kilometers of this land, which then became Coturaundee Nature Reserve. This areas is protected for the conservation and protection of the yellow-footed rock-wallaby. Part of the allocated fund were used to removed non-native species that have established themselves there, such as fox and goat.
