The Spotted Salamander is a mole salamander common to areas of the eastern US and Canada. It's a medium sized amphibians about 6.5-8 inches long. The habitat for these animals is in hardwood forests near ponds or other sources of still or slow moving water, which they need in order to breed. Except when laying eggs the Spotted Salamander spends most of it's time below ground or hidden in moist areas such as the undersides of rocks or in rotting trees. They are carnivores and feed on worms, spiders, slugs, millipedes and other insects.
