Information about the African Wild Dog:
The African Wild Dog, also called the African Hunting Dog, Spotted Dog and Painted Wolf, is found only in Africa. It inhabits scrub savanna and other areas not heavily wooded. The canine has a beautiful coat of tan, black and white and each pattern is unique. They are medium sized dogs generally weighing between 40-75 pounds and standing at 30 inches at the shoulder. Like wolves the wild dog hunts in packs with nearly all of the members participating. They feed mostly on large savanna animals such as Wildebeest and Zebras. It is the only species of Lycaon. The African Wild Dog's conservation status is endangered.
