Gemsbok – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Gemsbok:
The Gemsbok also known as a Gemsbuck, is a large antelope found in southern east Africa. The name is derived from the Dutch name of the male chamois, which is a horned ungulate that lives in alpine regions of mainland Europe. However, the chamois and the Gemsbok are not related. They are widely hunted and their horns are prized trophies, but unlike many of the large mammals in Africa they are not considered endangered. Gemsbok typically live in small herds of about ten to forty, which consist of a dominant male, a few non-dominant males, and females. Like other penguins, Gentoos feed mostly on crustaceans, such as krill although they will also eat fish. They live in and around islands in the Antarctic region, but their main colony is in the Falkland Islands, where there are about 300,000 breeding pairs. The nests are made on rocky shores. In building a nest Gentoos pile stones, grass and sticks into a circle where the eggs will then be laid. These birds ca be quite aggressive and occasionally fights will break out over stones or other building material, which they will steal from one another. Giant Chinese Salamander – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Giant Chinese Salamander:
Giant Chinese is a critically endangered amphibian native to the mountain streams and lakes in China. They are the largest amphibians in the world, and can reach over 5 feet in length, although adults of that size are exceedingly rare today. Due to habitat loss, pollution and illegal collecting they are considered critically endangered. They are thought of as a "living fossil" as their family dates back some 170 million years. It has very poor eyesight, so it depends mostly on special sensory nodes that run in a line on the body from the head to the tail. They feed on insects, crabs, frogs and fish. Climate change is also thought to have played a role in this animal's decline in the wild.
