The Long-Spine or Long-Spine Porcupine Fish (also called the Spiny Balloonfish) is found in much of the world's oceans. They generally inhabit muddy sea bottoms, lagoons and coral reefs. The fish is well-known for it's strange ability to make itself very large by swallowing air and water when threatened. It does this to make itself very unappealing to predators because of the massive spines that stick out when inflated (they lay back on the fish normally.) The spines of the porcupine fish are larger than the pufferfish (which it is sometimes confused with.) Like other mice, Apodemus sylvaticus is primarily a seed eater, but will also eat small invertebrates like snails and insects. As a curious habit while foraging, the mouse will pick up and distribute visually conspicuous objects, such as leaves and twigs, which they then use as landmarks during exploration. The Long-Tailed Weasel, also called the Bridled Weasel or Stoat (in Europe) is one of the larger members of the Mustelidae family. It is common throughout much of the North American continent, including Central America and some parts of South America. These animals are formidable predators, feeding on a variety of animals such as mice and other rodents, shrews, squirrels, and even rabbits - which are often larger than the weasel itself. It makes a lightening quick attack, usually biting the prey on the back of the head or neck. It will also feed on eggs, amphibians, reptiles and insects. For smaller prey, the entire animal is consumed and bones and hair are expelled, whereas larger prey only the meat is consumed The eyes of the Long-Tailed Weasel are black in daylight, but glow bright emerald green when caught in a spotlight at night. The Louisiana Crawfish - also called a crayfish, swamp crayfish or even the amusing moniker "mudbug." This small crustacean is native range to freshwater swamps, marshes and flooded forests of the Gulf Coast from northern Mexico to the Florida panhandle, as well as inland, to southern Illinois and Ohio. It has also been deliberately introduced into other parts of the world including Europe, Asia and Africa. In some places they have expanded beyond the intended boundaries and are now threatening the native crayfish in those places. These invertebrates are extremely important as a food source, and most of Procambarus clarkii harvested in the world comes from Louisiana. For this reason the state designated this crawfish as the state crustacean in 1983. The Luna Moth is a Nearctic moth in the subfamily Saturniinae. These colorful moths are found in North American from east of the Great Plains down into north Mexico and east to Nova Scotia in Canada. Based on the climate in which they live, the Luna moths produce differing numbers of generations. Some of these generation are very short lived and might live only a few days. The Luna moth has a wingspan of between 3-4.5 inches with long, tapering hindwings, which have eyespots on them in order to confuse potential predators. Although rarely seen due to their very brief adult lives, Luna moths are considered common. As with all Saturniidae, the adults cannot eat because they do not have mouths.
