Paris Opern House, France – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Paris Opera House:

The Paris Opera House, also called the Palais Garnier, is a large opera designed by architect Charles Garnier. The building is done in the architectural style of Beaux-Arts. The construction began in 1862 and was completed in 1875. The building was part of the great reconstruction period of the Second Empire under Emperor Napoleon III. There were many problems with the construction, not the least of which was the the site of the building was on swampy ground that needed to be constantly pumped out as the concrete foundation was laid. The construction was also hindered by the Franco-Prussian war. But despite the setbacks and political upheaval, the building was completed and dedicated in 1875. The style of the building was extremely influential, and many notable buildings - especially other opera houses - were heavily influenced by Garnier's remarkable vision. The legend of the storied building was furthered by the novel "The Phantom of the Opera" by Gaston Leroux.

Polyphemus Moth – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Polyphemus Moth:

The Polyphemus Moth is a is a North American member of the family Saturniidae, the giant silk moths. It has an average wingspan of about 6 inches (15 cm). The most notable feature of the moth is its large, purplish eyespots on its two hindwings. The eye spots are where it gets its name – from the Greek myth of the Cyclops Polyphemus. The species is widespread in continental North America, with local populations found throughout subarctic Canada and the United States. Differentiating between sexes of this species is easy. The most obvious difference is the plumose antennae. Males will have very bushy antennae while females will have moderately less bushy antennae. The male's bushy antennae are used to detect pheromones released by unmated females. Another difference is that the females will be slightly larger in the abdomen due to carrying eggs. There is a surprising amount of variation within this species. Color patterns can range from a reddish-cinnamon to a dark brown but are almost always a shade of brown. Saint Paul’s Cathedral in London, England – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about Saint Paul's Cathedral:

Saint Paul's Cathedral is a large, Baroque style building in the city of London, England. The groundbreaking for the cathedral was in 1675. The cathedral was the fourth building to occupy the site and three previous cathedrals had been variously destroyed before construction began. The architect was Sir Christopher Wren, who is credited with building on 50 churches in London following the Great Fire of 1666. The building was the tallest in London until 1962. During the blitz, the cathedral was damaged, but was not destroyed, despite the fact the building was targeted by the German bombers. The cathedral, unlike other European churches, has few artifacts but several famous people are interred in the crypt, including the architect himself, The Duke of Wellington, Sir Winston Churchill, Florence Nightingale, the painters Sir Joshua Reynolds and JM Turner and Lord Horatio Nelson.

Saint Paul’s Cathedral, Minnesota – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Saint Paul's Cathedral:

The Cathedral of Saint Paul, also called the National Shrine of the Apostle Paul, is a Classical Revival styled church in the city of Saint Paul, Minnesota. It was built upon a large hill (called Cathedral Hill) looking over the downtown area of Saint Paul and across the 94 Interstate Highway towards the Saint Paul's Cathedral. It was designed by the prominent architects Emmanuel Louis Masqueray and Whitney Warren, after Archbishop John Ireland directed it's building on the site. Masqueray himself died in 1917, and only managed to complete a handful of designs of the interior. The design was inspired by French Renaissance architecture. The large dome reaches a height of 186 feet (57 meters) with a diameter of 76 feet (23 meters). Much of the materials for the cathedral came from nearby towns in Minnesota. The exterior walls are granite from Saint Cloud, and the interior walls are American Travertine, from Mankato. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
