The Sea Clown Triopha is a member of the Polyceridae, which are a family of sea slugs, dorid nudibranchs, marine gastropod mollusks within the superfamily Polyceroidea. They are fairly small - and only grow to about 3.1 inches long (80mm) They are native to the cooler coastal waters of the Eastern Pacific from Alaska to Mexico, although it has also been found in Japan and South Korea. It is named for the island of Santa Catalina off the coast of California in the US.
