The Surinam Horned Frog, also called the Amazonian Horned Frog, is a large bodied frog measuring up to 8 inches (20 centimeters) native to the rainforests of Amazonian Basin of Colombia, Ecuador, the Guianas, Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil. It has an notably wide mouth - 1.6 times the size of the length of the frog's body It also has horn-like projections above its eyes which give it it's common name. The Surinam Horned Frog feed on a variety of prey, such as other frogs, lizards, and small mammals like mice. This species was once considered the same species as the Argentine Horned Frog (Ceratophrys ornata).
