The Spicebush Swallowtail Butterfly usually found in deciduous woods or woody swamps of the eastern parts of the United States and southern Ontario. They are also sometime called the "Green-Clouded Butterfly." There are two known subspecies of Spicebush Swallowtail. The name comes from close association the butterfly has with the Spicebush (genera Lindera) Swallowtails belong to the the family Papilionidae, which are the largest butterflies in the world. Papilio troilus is found in environments that support the growth of the Spicebush plant. Although they feed on others such as the Sweet Bay, Prickly Ash and Tulip Tree. It is the official butterfly of the state of Mississippi.
