Information about the Short-Beaked Echidna:
The Short-Beaked Echidna is one of four extant species of echidna living in various environments in Australia - in fact it is the most widespread native animal on the continent. It is the only member of the genus Tachyglossus. It is remarkable for a few reasons. The most notable is the fact that as a monotremes, it has the unusual characteristic of being one of the few egg-laying mammals in the world. Short-beaked echidnas are usually about 12-18 inches long (30 to 45 cm) with a 3 inch snout (75 mm), and weighing between 4.4-11 pounds (2 and 5 kg.) It is sometimes called a "Spiny Anteater" although it is not closely related to other anteaters in the world. When the echnida feels threatened, it will roll itself into a ball, making use of the large spines for defense. It has a sticky tongue that it uses to catch ants and termites with, which makes up most of it's diet. The Dugong is a large marine mammal native to the warm water oceans near the coastlines of the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and Australia. They are one of only four extant species of the order of Sirenia and the only living member of the genus Dugong. They are not closely related to other marine mammals, and are instead more closely related to elephants. They are herbivores, feeding on sea grasses and other plant matter in shallow waters. They closely resemble their relative the manatee, however the tail of the manatee is like a paddle, whereas the tail of the dugong is forked like that of a dolphin. These gentle mammals were hunted to near extinction for centuries, but all trade and hunt has been banned in nearly all parts of the world. They are very long lived animals, perhaps living some 70 years. The Sugar Glider is a small possum native to various forested environments of northern and eastern Australia, Tasmania and Papua New Guinea. While they strongly resemble flying squirrels they are not closely related to them. The name comes from their diet, which consists of tree sap, usually from the eucalyptus, acacia and gum trees. Although they will also catch and eat insects, especially in summer. They are arboreal, rarely coming down from the tree canopy. They are highly social, living in groups of up to seven adults plus young ones. They are hunted by many of the forest predators, such as owls, kookabuurras, snakes, goannas and feral cats. The Indian Gaur - sometimes called the Indian Bison - is a large member of the bovine family native to the evergreen forests or semi-evergreen and moist deciduous forests of much of Southeast Asia and the Indian Sub-continent. Dhole or Asiatic Wild Dog – Signed Fine Art Print

The Dhole, also called the Indian or Asiatic Wild Dog, is a species of canid native to South and Southeast Asia. It is the only extant member of the genus Cuon. These dogs are considered endangered by the IUCN, due to ongoing habitat loss, depletion of its prey base, competition from other predators, persecution and possibly diseases from domestic and feral dogs. Like most other wild dogs, Dholes are highly social animals, living in large packs which occasionally split up into smaller ones to hunt for food. It primarily preys on medium-sized ungulates, which it hunts by tiring them out in long chases and killing them when they are too tired to run anymore. Unlike most social canids (but similar to African wild dogs), dholes let their pups eat first at a kill. Though fearful of humans, dhole packs are bold enough to attack large and dangerous animals such as wild boar, water buffalo, and there are even accounts of them attacking tigers. The Golden Takin is an endangered goat-antelope native to the Peoples Republic of China & Bhutan. Takins are adapted to staying warm and dry during winters in the Himalayan Mountain regions they inhabit. A thick, secondary coat is grown to keep out the cold. Their large, moose-like snout has large sinus cavities that warm up the air a takin inhales which prevents the loss of body heat by breathing. Although they have no skin glands, their skin secretes an oily substance that provides a water barrier that protects takins from the elements. They are around the same size as a cow and are very aggressive. Its skin is also said to be the source of the legend of the Golden Fleece.
