American Bison – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the American Bison:
The American Bison - more commonly referred to as the Buffalo (which is actually not closely related to) - is a large North American land mammal. The American Bison once roamed the grasslands of central North America in massive herds, numbering in the tens of thousands. Overhunting and development of their native lands in the 19th century pushed the bison to near extinction with the population dwindling to few a few hundred individuals. Towards the end of the 1800s there was a push for their preservation and aggressive breeding and reintroduction projects were started. Even after over a century there are thought to only be roughly 20,000 bison in the wild today. They are a protected species on federal lands, but in some areas they are raised for their meat. Saddleback Pig – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Saddleback Pig:
A pig is a mammal belonging to the order of Artiodactyla. It is descended from the wild boar, and has been domesticated since ancient times. It is believed that there are about 2 billion pigs on earth. Pigs are omnivorous, and will eat virtually anything that it considers edible. They find their food in part by use of their snout, which is a very sensitive organ and can find food by digging around in the soil. Pigs are ungulates, which means they are hoofed mammals. Pigs have been introduced into areas where they are not native to, and are considered invasive pests, and can wipe out indigenous species of both plant and animal. Pigs are very intelligent animals. Europeans often use pigs and their sensitive snouts to find truffles. American Pronghorn – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the American Pronghorn or Antelope:
The American Pronghorn (also called the American Antelope or Pronghorn Antelope although it is actually not an antelope) is a herbivorous mammal native to the open grasslands, plains and deserts of the western part of North America. Pronghorns are known for their large migration patterns, which are the longest land migration (over 150 miles each way) in the continental United States. They are also the fastest land animal in all of North America with top speeds reaching nearly 60 miles an hour. While they cannot run as fast as the cheetah, they can maintain their speeds for a greater duration. Pronghorns have excellent eyesight and can spot predators from quite a distance. Unfortunately, the traditional migratory routes of the pronghorn have been disrupted by the greatly increased expansion of natural gas drilling. American Pika – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the American Pika:
The American Pika is native to the mountains of the western United States and Canada, usually living in large boulder fields at or above the tree line. They are about 6-8 inches long (162 to 216 millimeters) and generally weigh about 6 ounces (170 grams.) Despite looking similar to a mouse, it is more closely related to hares and rabbits. They are herbivores, feeding on a variety of grasses, thistles and sedges. Pikas are active during the day, calling out from the tops of boulders or gathering food. They are the prey for a variety of different animals, so they are extremely cautious, turning tail into their burrows in the rock crevices at the first sign of danger. Due to climate change, pikas are good environmental indicators of the warming planet. Unfortunately, as the earth gets hotter the environments the pika needs to survive is disappearing. Texas Longhorn – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Texas Longhorn:
The Texas Longhorn is a domestic breed of cattle distinctive for their overly large horns. Remarkably, they can be over 7 feet long (2.1 meters) from tip to tip, and in some cases even longer. These animals were imported by the Spanish settlers who were trying to colonize the southwestern United States. Texas bred their cattle with feral cattle from the Mexican farmers, and developed the breed to be tough and well known for it's lean meat which it lower in fat than most other cattle. For the tough terrain of Texas, these bovines developed ideal characteristics; they can go great distances without water, obtain their own food and fend for themselves. As well as swim rivers and survive the desert sun and cold winters. Because of it's importance and strong identity with the state, Texas selected the Longhorn as it's official large mammal in 1995. Easter Eggers Chicken – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Easter Eggers Chicken:
Chickens are domesticated fowl, likely descended from the Red Junglefowl (Gallus gallus) They are one of the most widespread domestic animals in the world, with a total population estimated to be over 24 billion birds. They are kept and bred by humans mostly for food - both the chicken itself and the eggs they lay. In some areas, the animals are compelled to fight one another for the purposes of gambling. Evidence suggest that as far back as the 18th dynasty in Egypt (c. 1550-c. 1292 BCE) chickens were kept for these uses. Chickens are omnivorous, and will continually scratch at the dirt looking for insects, vegetable matter or will even eat small lizards or mice if they're able to catch them. While they are considered flightless, chickens can get airborne for short distances.
