Carolina Wolf Spider – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Carolina Wolf Spider:
The Carolina Wolf Spider - also called the Giant Carolina Wolf Spider - is the largest spider in North America. It can grow to a length of 3-4 inches long (22-35 mm) They range over much of southern Canada and the US. Like other wolf spiders, H. carolinensis has eight eyes that are arranged in rows of three. The middle row has two very large and prominent eyes, the bottom row has four smaller eyes and the top has two medium sized eyes. Their eyes are good for night vision as when they are hunting. They depend mostly on camouflage for protection, so they are usually very drab, colored with gray and brown. Although they look like the dangerous Brown Recluse Spider, Wolf Spiders are mostly harmless to humans, but they can deliver a nasty bite if provoked. This arachnid was named the official spider of the state of South Carolina in 2000.
