European Otter – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the European Otter:

The European Otter - also called the Eurasian Otter, Common Otter or Eurasian River Otter - is an Old World otter native throughout much of Europe, Asia and Northern Africa. Like other otter species, they are rarely far from water. They are most commonly found in the UK, where nearly 12% of the adult breeding population is found. While generally associated with freshwater, they can live near saltwater, provided enough food is in the area to sustain them. While once very common in their native range, over the second half of the 20th century their numbers fell considerable, due to pollution, habitat loss and the introduction of non-native species. They are now considered near threatened or threatened.

Eyelash Pit Viper – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Eyelash Pit Viper:

The Eyelash Pit Viper is a venomous pit viper species found in Central and South America. Small and arboreal, these snakes are characterized by their wide array of color variations, as well as the scales over the eyes - which resemble eyelashes. The eyelashes are thought to aid in camouflage, breaking up the snake's outline among the foliage where it hides. This is a relatively small species that rarely exceeds 30 inches (75 centimeters) long. Females are generally larger than males. The name "pit viper" comes from the pits which are located on either side of the head. These snakes exhibit a wide range of colors, including red, yellow, brown, green and even pink. These snakes are venomous and will bite humans if provoked. They live in tropical rain forests lowlands from southern Mexico (northern Chiapas), southeastward on the Atlantic plains and lowlands through Central America to northern South America in Colombia and Venezuela, and in parts of Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The snake normally prefers lower altitude, humid, tropical areas with dense foliage, generally not far from a permanent water source. Having a strongly prehensile tail the snake is almost always found in the trees or rainforest canopy. It is largely nocturnal, consuming small rodents, frogs, lizards and small birds. A typical ambush predator, it waits patiently for unsuspecting prey to come along. The snake is named for the German ornithologist, Hermann Schlegel.
