Long-Eared Owl – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Long-Eared Owl:
The Long-Eared Owl is a medium sized owl being about 15 inches long and having a wingspan of about 40 inches across. They have a large range and are found in temperate forests of North America, Europe and Asia. It is believed that the large and distinctive ear tufts are used to make the owl appear larger to possible predators and other owls. Like other owls the Long-Eared Owl feeds almost exclusively at night, locating it's prey by sounds. It feeds on rodents, small mammals and birds. In controlled conditions these owls have been able to find it's prey in complete darkness. The hoot of a male long-eared owl can be heard up to a nearly a mile away. Madagascar Long-Eared Owl – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Madagascar Long-Eared Owl:
The Madagascar Long-Eared Owl is a medium sized owl found in woodland habitats on the island of Madagascar. Adult owls grow to be about 16-20 inches long (40-50 cm) which makes it the largest owl on Madagascar. Females grow to be slightly larger than the males. Like other owls, they are mostly nocturnal, spending most of the daylight hours in a hiding place. They emerge at dusk and begin to hunt, usually feeding on amphibians, reptiles, birds and small mammals. While it is not currently considered to be at risk, due to habitat loss it's future - like many animals on Madagascar - remains uncertain. Northern Saw-Whet Owl – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Northern Saw-Whet Owl:
The Northern Saw-Whet Owl is a smaller, fairly common owl native to the forests of North America, including southeastern Alaska, southern Canada, most of the United States and the central mountains in Mexico. Generally the adults grow to be about 6.7–8.7 inches long (17–22 cm) with a 17–22.2 inch wingspan (42–56.3 cm) These owls weigh only about 1.9 to 5.3 oz (54 to 151 g) with an average of around 2.8 oz (80 g) which makes them one of the smallest owls in North America. They are roughly the size of an American Robin. When calling the Northern Saw-Whet Owl makes a repeated tooting whistle-like sound. These calls are usually made to attract a mate, so the calls are more common in the spring months. They are very effective hunters, like all owls, and will feed on a variety of animals such as small mammals, birds, insects and amphibians. Northern Spotted Owl – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Northern Spotted Owl:
The Northern Spotted Owl is one of three subspecies of Spotted Owls native to the thick, old growth forests of the Pacific Northwest area of the United States. This bird of prey has a length of 17 inches (43 centimeters) with a wingspan of roughly 45 inches (114 centimeters) weighing about 21 ounces. (600 grams.) The females of the species is usually a little larger than the males. The animal is considered near threatened, due to habitat loss and now most of the surviving population (thought to be only about 3,000 to 5,000 mated pairs) lives on federal land that is protected. Like most owls, Strix occidentalis caurina is a nocturnal hunter, feeding on small mammals, reptiles, insects and other birds. They ingest their prey whole and later regurgitate a pellet of fur, feathers and bones.
