It has been recorded as a vagrant up the Pacific coast of North America to British Columbia in Canada. Yellow-Billed Magpie – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Yellow-Billed Magpie:

The Yellow-Billed Magpie is native only to the Central Valley and Central Coast Ranges of California, unlike it's relative the Black-Billed Magpie which is found in much of the rest of the United States. It very strongly resembles the Black-Billed Magpie too, except for the striking yellow beak and thin strip outline around the eyes. . It is a member of the crow family. The Latin name is in honor of the English naturalist Thomas Nuttall. Magpies are clever and opportunistic feeders. They will steal food from orchards, campsites and backyards, exploiting many different types of human inhabitance. While the birds are not considered endangered, West Nile Virus, habitat loss and pesticide use has greatly decreased their numbers and they have been extirpated in many areas they were once common.

Yellow-Headed Blackbird – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Yellow-Headed Blackbird:

The Yellow-Headed Blackbird is a passerine bird and a member of the Icteridae family and the only member of the genus Xanthocephalus. Adult males are mainly black with a yellow head and breast; they have a white wing patch sometimes only visible in flight. The adult female is mainly brown with a dull yellow throat and breast. They are typically found in swamps and marshes of North America, mainly west of the Great Lakes. They nest in colonies, often sharing their habitat closely with the Red-winged Blackbird. During the breeding and nesting season the males are very territorial and spend much of their time perched on reed stalks and displaying or chasing off intruders. These birds migrate in the winter to the southwestern United States and Mexico. They often migrate in huge flocks with other species of birds. The only regions of the United States where these blackbirds are permanent residents are the San Joaquin Valley and the Lower Colorado River Valley of Arizona and California. These birds forage in the marsh, in fields or on the ground; they sometimes catch insects in flight. They mainly eat seeds and insects. Outside of the nesting period, they often feed in flocks, often with related species. This bird's song resembles the grating of a rusty hinge.
