The Madagascar or Red Fody, sometimes called the Red Cardinal Fody or Common fody, is a small bird native to Madagascar. The bird is about 5 inches in length and weighs 14–19 grams. The male of the species is bright red with black markings around each eye. Its wings and tail are olive-brown. The female fody's upper body is olive-brown and its underbody is greyish-brown. It is a common bird found in forest clearings, grasslands and cultivated areas. In Madagascar it is regarded as a pest to rice cultivation. It has been introduced to other areas of the Indian Ocean. The Madagascar Long-Eared Owl is a medium sized owl found in woodland habitats on the island of Madagascar. Adult owls grow to be about 16-20 inches long (40-50 cm) which makes it the largest owl on Madagascar. Females grow to be slightly larger than the males. Like other owls, they are mostly nocturnal, spending most of the daylight hours in a hiding place. They emerge at dusk and begin to hunt, usually feeding on amphibians, reptiles, birds and small mammals. While it is not currently considered to be at risk, due to habitat loss it's future - like many animals on Madagascar - remains uncertain. Magnificent Frigatebird – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Magnificent Frigatebird:
The Magnificent Frigatebird is a member of the order Suliformes. In the past the bird was sometimes called the Man O'War or Man of War. Which was a reflection on it aerial piracy of other birds. The bird is widespread in the tropical Atlantic, breeding colonially in trees in Florida, the Caribbean and Cape Verde Islands. It also breeds along the Pacific coast of the Americas from Mexico to Ecuador including the Galápagos Islands. The Magnificent Frigatebird is about 40 inches long (100 cm)with an 85 inch wingspan (215 cm). Males are all-black with a scarlet throat pouch that is inflated like a balloon in the breeding season. Females are black, but have a white breast and lower neck sides, a brown band on the wings, and a blue eye-ring that is diagnostic of the female of the species. The Magnificent Frigatebird feeds mainly on fish, and also attacks other seabirds to force them to disgorge their meals. Frigatebirds never land on water, and always take their food items in flight. Mandarin Duck – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Mandarin Duck:
The Mandarin Duck is a medium-sized, East Asian perching duck, closely related to the North American Wood Duck. It is 41–49 cm long with a 65–75 cm wingspan. The adult male is a striking and unmistakable bird. It has a red bill, large white crescent above the eye and reddish face and "whiskers". The breast is purple with two vertical white bars, and the flanks ruddy, with two orange "sails" at the back. The female is similar to female Wood Duck, with a white eye-ring and stripe running back from the eye, but is paler below, has a small white flank stripe, and a pale tip to its bill. The Mandarin ducklings are almost identical in look to Wood ducklings, and appear very similar to Mallard ducklings. The ducklings can be distinguished from Mallard ducklings because the eye-stripe of Mandarin ducklings stops at the eye, while in Mallard ducklings it reaches all the way to the bill. The species was once widespread in eastern Asia, but large-scale exports and the destruction of its forest habitat have reduced populations in eastern Russia and in China to below 1,000 pairs in each country; Japan, however, is thought to still hold some 5,000 pairs.
