Information about the African Wild Dog:
The African Wild Dog, also called the African Hunting Dog, Spotted Dog and Painted Wolf, is found only in Africa. It inhabits scrub savanna and other areas not heavily wooded. The canine has a beautiful coat of tan, black and white and each pattern is unique. They are medium sized dogs generally weighing between 40-75 pounds and standing at 30 inches at the shoulder. Like wolves the wild dog hunts in packs with nearly all of the members participating. They feed mostly on large savanna animals such as Wildebeest and Zebras. It is the only species of Lycaon. The Alaskan Malamute is a large breed of dog and member of the Spitz group - which are are a type of dog generally characterized by long, thick, and often white fur, and pointed ears and muzzles. The tails of these dogs are very distinctive as they are usually curled over the dog's back. Malamutes are commonly used to pull sleds and haul loads in the cold, snowy wastes of Alaska. While they do look similar to the Siberian Husky, they are very different dogs with distinctive personalities, anatomy and size. Their names come from a tribe of Inuit that lived in the upper western areas of Alaska. Their names were the Mahlemut. The dogs were used for a variety of purposes, such as hunting, pulling large loads, sledding and protection. It is the official state dog of Alaska. Information about the Alpine Chamois:
The Alpine Chamois is a member of the Bovidae family. It is native to the mountainous regions in Europe, including the Carpathian Mountains of Romania, the European Alps, the Tatra Mountains, the Balkans, parts of Turkey, and the Caucasus. It had also been successfully introduced into New Zealand's south island. They live at moderately high altitudes and are adapted to living in precipitous, rugged, rocky terrain. These ungulates are found at elevations of at least 11,800 ft (3,600 m). In Europe, Chamois spend their summers above the treeline in meadows. A fully grown chamois reaches a height of about 28–31 inches (70–80 cm) and measures 42–54 in (107–137 cm) long. Males are slightly heavier and larger than the females (66–130 lb) (30–60 kg). Females weigh 55–99 lb (25–45 kg ). Both males and females have short, horns which are mostly straight but hooked backwards near the tip. Males have thicker horns.
