Mandarin Duck – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Mandarin Duck:
The Mandarin Duck is a medium-sized, East Asian perching duck, closely related to the North American Wood Duck. It is 41–49 cm long with a 65–75 cm wingspan. The adult male is a striking and unmistakable bird. It has a red bill, large white crescent above the eye and reddish face and "whiskers". The breast is purple with two vertical white bars, and the flanks ruddy, with two orange "sails" at the back. The female is similar to female Wood Duck, with a white eye-ring and stripe running back from the eye, but is paler below, has a small white flank stripe, and a pale tip to its bill. The Mandarin ducklings are almost identical in look to Wood ducklings, and appear very similar to Mallard ducklings. The ducklings can be distinguished from Mallard ducklings because the eye-stripe of Mandarin ducklings stops at the eye, while in Mallard ducklings it reaches all the way to the bill. The species was once widespread in eastern Asia, but large-scale exports and the destruction of its forest habitat have reduced populations in eastern Russia and in China to below 1,000 pairs in each country; Japan, however, is thought to still hold some 5,000 pairs. Mongolian Wild Ass – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Mongolian Wild Ass:
The Mongolian Wild Ass or Donkey, also called the Khulan or Kulan, is a member of the family Equidae. They are found in remote regions of Mongolia and Northern China. At one time it was also found in Kazakhstan, but the animal was extirpated due to hunting. Because of ongoing poaching, hunting and competition from domestic livestock for food the number of these wild equines has continued to decline to the point of where the entire species itself is in danger of extinction. Several conservation groups are working to preserve the species, although due to the remoteness of the Khulan's habitat this can be a very challenging undertaking. Persian Onager – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Persian Onager:
The Persian Onagers are one of six sub-species of wild ass that once were common across Central Asia and the Middle East. Fewer than 700 animals remain in the wild, most of these in Iran. Because of their remote location and travel in Iran generally restricted to outsides, determining their population is increasingly difficult. These wild asses face several threats, including poaching, habitat loss, drought and inbreeding due to the small population. Sometimes the term "onager" is reserved specifically for this subspecies. There are very few onagers in captivity or in zoos, however in 2012 there was a rare foal born to the National Zoo in Washington, DC.The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
