The Forster's Tern is a smaller member of the family Sternidae. It's about 13-14 inches long (33-36 cm) with a wingspan of 25-28 inches (64-70 cm.) It's closely resembled the Common Tern but has a gray center to it's white tail. The Forster's tern feeds by plunge-diving for fish, but will also hawk for insects in its breeding marshes. It usually feeds from saline environments in winter, like most Sterna terns. It normally dives directly, and not from the "stepped-hover" favored by the Arctic tern. The Gray Jay is a medium-sized passerine bird native to the boreal forests of of North America, from the north to the tree-line and in subalpine forests of the Rocky Mountains south to New Mexico and Arizona. There are several subspecies of this jay scattered across their range. The bird tends to prefer forests with black and white spruce trees, as well as pine trees. Like other jays they are opportunistic feeders and will eat a variety of plant matter such as nuts, fruits and insects, but they will also raid the nests of other birds and eat eggs and fledglings. The Gray Jay will also exploit human activity such as camping and raid campsites stealing any food they find. There are two subspecies.
