This mammal is a formidable predator, hunting in groups or "pods" generally consisting of related individuals. They are considered the top predator in the world's oceans. They are very large animals with males typically ranging from 19-26 feet and weighing in excess of 6 tons. Females are generally smaller. Orcas are the official state marine mammal of Washington.
