The Bog Turtle is a small reptile native to the eastern parts of the US. It is considered endangered and is protected by the Federal Endangered Species Act. It is the smallest species of turtle in North America and one of the smallest in the world - weighing only about 4 ounces when fully grown and having a length of about 4-5 inches. Bog turtles spend most of their time under water, buried in mud or hidden in thick vegetation. It is illegal to harm, capture or disturb them.
