The Mojave Rattlesnake is a venomous pit viper native to the arid high deserts and low mountainous areas of the southwestern United States and Central Mexico. They generally grow to about 3.3 feet in length (100 cm) although they can get as large as 4.5 feet long (138 cm.) The color varies in this snake, usually determined by the environment and surroundings. Some snakes are greenish in color, and are referred to as "Mojave Greens." Like other rattlesnakes, over the years the snake develops hollow areas on the tail, that it will rattle when it feels threatened.
