California Banana Slug – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the California Banana Slug:
The California Banana Slug is one of three species of land slug native to the damp, coastal areas of the Pacific northwest. They are commonly found the coniferous redwood forests, in environments that provide the moisture and food for the slug to survive. Banana Slugs are detritivores, or decomposers. Which means they often feed on the decaying organic matter on the forest floor. Through the consumption of these materials, the slugs themselves are then eaten by other animals of the forest, so the slugs are critical in the recycling and reuse of the organic matter of the forest. The Banana Slug is the mascot for the University of California, Santa Clara. Information about the Ground Squirrel:
Ground Squirrels are small rodents and members of the genus Marmota which include marmots, chipmunks and prairie dogs. They live in large groups, dwelling in large communal areas, usually in and around rocky areas often not far from water. They are very alert animals, and when danger is sighted they emit a large audible squeak which warns the others to take cover. They are very successful animals, living all over the world and in many different types of environment. They will live in cities too, as long as there is room and a food source, which is usually vegetable matter like leaves, stems, flowers, seeds, berries and fruits.
