The Sharp-Shinned Hawk is the smallest hawk to reside in North America. The males are 9.1 to 12 inches long (23 to 30 cm) with a wingspan of 17 to 23 inches (42 to 58 cm. They generally weigh 2.9–4.1 ounces (82–115 g.) There are four sub species of hawk, all found a widespread area of North America, Central America, South America and the Greater Antilles. The bird can usually be found in woodlands and forests with the presence of conifers and by various types of broad-leaved trees such as oak. They are opportunistic hunters, and will feed upon almost any small animal it finds suitable, such as lizards, rodents, frogs, snakes and large insect. It attacks it's prey by surprise, emerging from cover or flying through dense vegetation. In the 60s and 70s the numbers of these birds declined in most of it's native range - likely due to the use of the pesticide DDT - but in most areas the hawk has rebounded and it's numbers are stable. These crabs are fairly common and are often encountered standing in the open by divers. Otherwise, they spend their time hidden in rocky places, using their formidable camouflage to stay hidden. Short-Beaked Echidna – Signed Fine Art Print

The Short-Beaked Echidna is one of four extant species of echidna living in various environments in Australia - in fact it is the most widespread native animal on the continent. It is the only member of the genus Tachyglossus. It is remarkable for a few reasons. The most notable is the fact that as a monotremes, it has the unusual characteristic of being one of the few egg-laying mammals in the world. Short-beaked echidnas are usually about 12-18 inches long (30 to 45 cm) with a 3 inch snout (75 mm), and weighing between 4.4-11 pounds (2 and 5 kg.) It is sometimes called a "Spiny Anteater" although it is not closely related to other anteaters in the world. When the echnida feels threatened, it will roll itself into a ball, making use of the large spines for defense. It has a sticky tongue that it uses to catch ants and termites with, which makes up most of it's diet. The Short Billed Dowitcher is a medium-sized, stocky shorebird of the sandpiper family, which includes the snipes and the curlews. These birds are noted with the various sizes and shaped of the bill, which are sometimes curved, straight, long or short. The Short-Billed Dowitcher is a migratory bird, and is found up and in many areas of North America, and when the cold weather approaches it heads southwards down to the southern US and into South America.
