The Spotted Sandpiper is a smaller shorebird native most of North, Central and South America. There are two species of the genus Actitis (the other being the Common Sandpiper.) They grow to be about 7.5 inches long (19 cm.) They're usually encountered near ponds, streams and other waterways inland and on the coastlines. While many similar species tend to breed in South America, the Spotted Sandpiper builds it nest and breed in the US.
