Hoatzin – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Hoatzin:

The Hoatzin - also called the stinkbird or Canje Pheasant - is tropical bird native to the swamps, forests and mangroves of the Amazon and Orinoco Delta in South America. It is the only extant member of the family Opisthocomidae. It is about 26 inches long (65 cm) not including a long head and neck. It is a very vocal bird, with a variety of hoarse calls, including groans, croaks, hisses and grunts. These calls are often associated with body movements, such as wing spreading. Calls are used to maintain contact between individuals in groups, warn of threats and intruders and by chicks begging for food. The Hoatzin feeds on leaves, fruits and flowers. Despite habitat loss and predation by humans on the eggs of the birds, it is not considered endangered. And it's adaptability to changes to it's environment will help it survive into the future. Honduran White Bats – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Honduran White Bats:

The Honduran White Bat is native to the dense rainforests of Central America. They will roost under the leaves of banana trees as well as hollow trees or abandoned buildings. It is only one of two species of white bat - the other being the Northern Ghost Bat. These bats are very small, being only 1.5-2.5 inches long (3.7-4.7 cm) and weighing .2 ounces (6 grams) The Honduran White Bat is unique among most bats (but not many tropical bats) in that it will modify its immediate surroundings for its own benefit. Unlike the misconception that all bats live in caves, this bat will use the leaf of the large heliconia plant to form a tent. It does so by cutting the side veins of the plant that extend out from the midrib; this causes the leaf to droop along the stem, making a tent. The little white bats then cling to the inner plant upside-down in small colonies of around six, although larger groupings have been reported.
