Arapaima – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Arapaima:
The Arapaima - sometimes called the pirarucu or paiche, is a very large tropical freshwater fish native to the rivers, streams, lakes and floodplains and flooded rainforests of South America. It is considered a "living fossil" and is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world, reaching lengths of over 6.6 feet (2 meters) and weighing over 220 pounds (110 kg.) Due to commercial fishing, as the Arapaima is a much sought after foot fish, very few large specimens can be found in the wild today. It is a top predator in it's environment feeding on other fish, crustaceans and even small mammals that might venture too close to the water. Because it breathes air, it is especially successful in hunting other fish when the waters recede, trapping other fish reliant on oxygen in the water. Deprived of their air they become sluggish and disoriented, making them easy prey for the Arapaima. Information about the Archelon:
Archelon is a genus of extinct prehistoric sea turtle. These massive marine reptiles lived in the oceans of North America during the late Cretaceous (75-65 million years ago.) They grew to an amazing 12 feet long and weighed over 2 tons. The largest Archelon fossil, found in the Pierre Shale of South Dakota in the 1970s, measures more than 13 feet (5 meters) long, and about 4.9 meters (16 ft) wide from flipper to flipper. Unlike most modern turtles, Archelon did not have a solid shell, but instead had a skeletal framework supporting a leathery or bony carapace. Arctic Fox – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Arctic Fox:
The Arctic Fox - also called the Polar, White or Snow Fox - is a small mammal of the Canidae family. It has the distinction of living in one of the coldest and harshest environments on the planet. It's deep and heavy fur helps protect it from the elements. While it's ears are comparatively small compared to other foxes, it's hearing is so keen it can detect and locate prey underneath the snow. Arctic Wolf – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Arctic Wolf:
Also called the Polar, Tundra or White Wolf, Arctic Wolves are large predatory mammals from the Canidae family. They are a subspecies of the Gray or Timber Wolf. These wolves inhabit the Canadian and Alaskan arctic as well as part of Greenland. They are somewhat smaller than the Gray Wolf although they are still large growing to over 150 pounds and up to 5-6 feet long (including tail.) Like all wolves the Arctic Wolf mostly hunts in packs preying on caribou and musk oxen. But they will also take smaller prey such as hare, seals, birds and lemmings.
