Bat Star – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Bat Star

The Bat star is a member of the family Asteroidea. They are also called the Sea bat, Webbed star, Bat Man and Broad-disk star. This ocean animal is an echinoderm (commonly known as sea stars). It usually has five arms, with the center disk of the animal being much wider than the stubby arms are in length. Bat stars come in many different colors, such as green, purple, red, orange, yellow and brown, either mottled or solid. The bat star gets its name from the webbing between its arms, which is said to resemble a bat's wings. The bat star is usually found in the intertidal zone at an average depth of 260 feet (79 meters). Its range extends from Sitka, Alaska to Baja California in the Pacific Ocean. It is most abundant along the coast of Central California and the Monterey Bay. Bat stars are important as scavengers, collecting algae and dead animals from the ocean floor and helping keep the ocean healthy. Information about the Blue Sea Star:

The Blue Sea star is a member of the family Ophiothricidae. It is found in the warm tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific. While they are called Blue Sea Stars, there is a good deal of color variation, and they can be aqua, purple or even orange. They grow to be about 12 inches in diameter (30 cm). They are usually found on the sea floor, not too far from the shoreline. The Blue Sea Star is predated on by various animals, such as pufferfish, shrimp, and sea anemones. This sea star does very well in captivity and due to it's beautiful coloration it is often kept in captivity by aquarists. Due to this, along with the use of the sea star for souvenirs to sell to tourists, their numbers have declined in the wild. Common Sunstar – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Common Sunstar:

The Common Sunstar is a member of the family Solasteridae, which includes about 10 different genera of sea stars. This echinoderm is native to the coastal waters of both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, mostly in the northern parts. It is common along the coastlines of the northern European nations, along with much of the Pacific Coastline of North America. The animal gets it's name from the circular shape and large number of arms - usually between 8 and 14 - which resemble the sun. They are large, usually about 15 inches across (40cm) While they are generally found at depth of at least 5-10 feet, very low season tides will expose them to the open air. Currently there is a disease that is causing the population to waste away, and the cause is unknown. Whale Shark – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Whale Shark:

The Whale Shark (Rhincodon typus) is a slow moving filter feeding shark. It is the largest living fish species growing up to 40 feet in length and weighing up to 15 tons. While it is the largest known fish in the ocean it feed upon the smallest; it sieves enormous amounts of plankton through its gills as it swims. Whale sharks live in the warm water found near the equator both along the coast and in the open seas. They spend most of their time near the surface. They are very slow swimmers, generally reaching speeds of just a few miles per hour. For this reason they are very popular with snorkelers who can easily swim alongside this gentle creatures. Northern Pike – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Northern Pike:

The Northern Pike - simply called "pike" in Europe, jackfish in Canada or "northern" in the mid-western parts of the US - is a freshwater carnivorous fish native to lakes and slow moving rivers throughout much of North America, Europe and Central Asia. They are highly adaptive animals and have been introduced into areas with brackish water (a mix of salt and seawater) and managed to establish themselves. They can grow to be quite large, with lengths of about 60 inches (150 centimeters) and weighing over 55 pounds (25 kilograms) The heaviest specimen ever caught weighed 68 pounds (31 kilograms) These fish are extremely popular with anglers, and large individuals are highly sought after. Unfortunately, due to their popularity they have been "fished out" of many lakes. Even with this pressure, the fish is so adaptable and widespread it is not considered endangered by any group. It is the state fish of North Dakota. Pacific Electric Ray – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Torpedo or Pacific Electric Ray:

The Torpedo Ray - also called the Pacific Electric Ray - is a member of the family of Torpedinidae. They are native to the coastal waters of the northeastern Pacific Ocean from Baja California to as far north as British Columbia in Canada. They are not large rays, but can grow to about 4.5 feet in length (1.4 meters) They are found in kelp forests, rocky reefs and sandy bottoms down to a depth of around 600 feet (200 meters) These rays feed on small fish like anchovies, herring, and the like. They will also eat octopus and other cephalopods, as well as crustaceans. As the name implies, they are able to deliver a sizable electric shock, and because of this divers are advised to keep their distance, especially at night when the rays are feeding. Tiger Shark – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Tiger Shark:

The Tiger Shark is a species of requiem shark and is the only member of the genus Galeocerdo. They are large fish, growing to sizes in upwards of 13 feet long weighing over 2,000 pounds. They're found in tropical and temperate oceans, especially in the central Pacific islands. The Tiger Shark is a solitary predator, feeding on seals, fish, birds, sea turtles, dolphins and even other smaller sharks. The name comes from the dark stripes down the sides of the animal. They are second only to the Great White Shark in number of attacks on humans, although that number is extremely small considering the large number of human in the world's oceans at any given time. The Tiger Shark is often found close to shore in reefs and shallow sandy areas. Strange objects are often found in the shark's stomach such as license plates and car parts, and they are sometime called "the wastebasket of the sea. Muskellunge – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Muskellunge:

The Muskellunge or Muskie is a large predatory freshwater fish native to the lakes and large rivers of North America. It is the largest member of the pike family. Generally these fish grow to be between 28-48 inches (.71-1.2 meters) weighing in the area of 5-36 pounds (2.3-16 kilograms) They can grow to be much larger - over 6 feet (2 meters) long weighing 70 pounds (32 kilograms.) They are the top predator in the lake, and feed on nearly all animals that might be around; crayfish, frogs, fish, ducklings, snakes, mice, muskrats and other rodents. These freshwater monsters are so bold they will sometimes attack humans in shallow water. They are also highly prized by fishermen and women. Unfortunately, because of their low productive rate they have become very scarce in much of their former range. Anglers are encouraged to "catch and release" when they hook a Muskie. Silvertip Reef Shark – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Silvertip Reef Shark:

The Silvertip Reef Shark is a species of requiem shark, which are typically migratory, live-bearing sharks of the warm oceans. These large predators are generally found worldwide, in patchy areas usually around coral reefs. Silvertip sharks can grow up to nearly ten feet long (3 meters) but usually measure in the area of 6 to 8 feet (2.0–2.5 meters) Like other sharks, the Silvertip feeds on bony fish, cephalopods like octopus and squid, smaller sharks and rays. While encountering one while diving can be a stressful experience, studies have shown that the sharks are usually just curious and will not normally attack humans, although attacks have been recorded, none have been fatal. Due to overfishing, especially due to the wasteful practice of catching them for sharkfin soup, this species is considered threatened. Information about the Scalloped Hammerhead Shark:

The Scalloped Hammerhead Shark is a member of the family Sphyrnidae. This is a fairly large shark, though is smaller than both the Great and Smooth Hammerheads. This shark is also known as the bronze, kidney-headed or southern hammerhead. It primarily lives in warm temperate and tropical coastal waters all around the globe between latitudes 46° N and 36° S, down to a depth of 1,600 feet (500 meters). The Scalloped Hammerhead is a coastal pelagic species, it occurs over continental and insular shelves and in nearby deeper water. It is found in warm temperate and tropical waters, worldwide from 46° north to 36° south. It can be found down to depths of over 1,600 feet (500 meters ft) but is most often found above 82 feet (25 meters). During the day they are more often found close to shore and at night they hunt further offshore. Adults occur alone, in pairs or in small schools while young sharks occur in larger schools. On average, males measure 4.9 to 5.9 ft (1.5 to 1.8 m) and weigh approximately 64 lb (29 kg) when they attain sexual maturity, whereas the larger females measure 8.2 ft (2.5 m) and weigh 180 lb (80 kg) on average at sexual maturity. The maximum length of the scalloped hammerhead is 14 ft (4.3 m) and the maximum weight 336 lb (152.4 kg). Due to overfishing this species is considered endangered by several environmental groups.
