Cattle Egret – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Cattle Egret:
The Cattle Egret species of heron (family Ardeidae) found in the tropics, subtropics and warm temperate zones. It is the only member of the monotypic genus Bubulcus. It nests in colonies, usually near bodies of water and often with other wading birds. The nest is a platform of sticks in trees or shrubs. Cattle egrets exploit drier and open habitats more than other heron species. Their feeding habitats include seasonally inundated grasslands, pastures, farmlands, wetlands and rice paddies. They often accompany cattle or other large mammals, catching insect and small vertebrate prey disturbed by these animals. This species maintains a special relationship with cattle, which extends to other large grazing mammals; wider human farming is believed to be a major cause of their suddenly expanded range. The cattle egret removes ticks and flies from cattle and eats them. Cecropia Moth – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Cecropia Moth:
The Cecropia Moth is North America's largest moth. It is a member of the Saturniidae, which are the worlds largest moths. The range of this large flying insect is east of the Rocky Mountains in the United States and southern Canada. They have a wingspan of 5-6 inches, although specimens with largest wingspans have been found. While the caterpillar stage of the moth is a voracious eater, feeding on the leaves of many different types of trees, the adult moth itself does not eat during it's lifetime. It survives only for a few weeks, and during that time it's only purpose is to mate. Like many other moths, the Cecropia Moth is mostly nocturnal and not active during the day, so it is not very often encountered by humans.
