They are sexually dimorphic which means that the adult females and males differ in appearance. While they are agile in the air, they are very clumsy on land and their take offs and landings can be adventures. They were once the most common bird on many islands in the tropics, but the introductions of rats all but eliminated them from some of them. In places where the rats have been eradicated the birds have returned. The booby catches it food by diving into the ocean and seizing prey. They can dive to 50 feet deep.
