The Blue and Yellow Macaw, also called the Blue and Gold Macaw, belongs to a group of neo-tropical parrots. They live in the tropical forests of South America. They are large birds reaching over 30 inches long and weighing 2-3 pounds. Like most parrots these birds mate for life. They are very popular as pets largely due to their beautiful plumage and curious ability to mimic short human phrases.

The Blue and Golden Macaws illustration is based on photos and sketches I did at the Oakland Zoo. The vibrant colors of these amazing birds is truly a wonder. I love seeing them whenever I visit the zoo, and with their loud calls and placement not too far from the entrance, they’re usually the first animal you hear when you enter.
