The Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) lives at the extreme northern margins of the arctic tundra. It is the northernmost, heaviest, and most distinctively marked owl of North America. They inhabit areas of low sparse vegetation, open fields, valley floors, salt and fresh water meadows. Largely diurnal, it spends much of its time perched still and silent on lookouts, waiting to make forays for prey.
