Information about the Indochinese Tiger:
The Indochinese Tiger is a subspecies of tiger native to the the secluded, hilly tropical jungles of Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. Panthera tigris corbetti is named in honor of Jim Corbett - who was a British hunter, conservationist and author. It is a highly endangered animal with a wild population estimated to be around only 1200-1800 individuals. The average male Indochinese tiger measures about nine feet long (2.55 to 2.85 meters) weighing about 330-430 pounds (150 to 195 kilograms), although larger animals can tip the scales at over 500 pounds (250 kg). The tiger's skull measures between 13-14 inches (319 to 365 millimeters) in length. Like all tiger species they are threatened by poaching and habitat loss, although the governments of some of the Southeast Asian nations have set aside some natural areas to help protect these endangered animals. The Kiangis - also called the Tibetan wild ass, khyang, and gorkhar - is the largest of the wild asses. It is native to the Tibetan Plateau, where it inhabits montane and alpine grasslands. Its current range is restricted to Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, plains of the Tibetan plateau and northern Nepal along the Tibetan border. Kiangs are found on the Tibetan plateau, between the Himalayas in the south and the Kunlun Mountains in the north. This restricts them almost entirely to China, but small number are found across the borders in the Ladakh and Sikkim regions of India, and along the northern frontier of Nepal. Like all equids, kiangs are herbivores, feeding on grasses and sedges, especially Stipa, but also including other local plants such as bog sedges, Carex, and meadow grass. The Persian Leopard - also called Caucasian leopard - is the largest leopard subspecies They are native to remote areas of northern Iran, eastern Turkey, the Caucasus mountains, southern Turkmenistan, and parts of western Afghanistan. This large wild cat endangered throughout its range with fewer than 871–1,290 mature individuals, and the population is declining. Like other large cats, Persian Leopards feed on goat, deer, gazelle and wild boar. They will attack and kill livestock and for this reason they are often exterminated by local farmers. At one time these leopards were most likely distributed once over the whole Caucasus, except for steppe areas. Surveys conducted between 2001 and 2005 confirmed that there are no more leopards in the western part of the Greater Caucasus, and that they survived only at a few sites in the eastern part. The largest populations survive in Iran.
