Information about the Boreal Owl:
The Boreal Owl is a small owl native to much of the central and northern forests of North America, Asia and Europe. It is also known as the Tengmalm's Owl after Swedish naturalist Peter Gustaf Tengmalm. Other names for the owl include Richardson's Owl, Funeral Owl, Sparrow Owl, and Pearl Owl. This species is a part of the larger grouping of owls known as typical owls, Strigidae, which contains most other species of owl. The Boreal Owl grows to be about 8.7–11 inches long (22–27 centimeters) with a 20–24 inch wingspan (50–62 centimeters . Like other owls, is a skilled predator, feeing mainly on voles and other mammals. It will also prey on smaller birds as well as insects and other invertebrates. It is largely nocturnal, though in the northern most parts of its range, it is forced to hunt during daylight because of the very short nights in summer. The Buffy Fish Owl is a one of four species of fish owl. While it's a fairly large owl, it's the smallest of the fish owls. Adults are about 15-19 inches (38-48 cm.) Bubo ketupu is native to the dense tropical forests of Southeast Asia. As the name implies, a large proportion of the Buffy Fish Owl's diet consists of fish, as well as crustaceans, reptiles, frogs, toads and insects. Rats, mice and large beetles are also taken. They will sometimes take bats, and reportedly feed on carrion. Buffy Fish Owls fish from a perch an the water's edge, or from a tree on a wooded bank, swooping down to snatch prey from the water's surface. They will also walk in shallow streams to snatch crabs, frogs, fish and aquatic insects. The Bearded Vulture - also called the Lammergeier or Lammergeyer - is a large bird of prey native to the rugged and mountainous regions from Europe through much of Asia and Africa. An adult bird is about 37–49 inches long (94–125 cm) with a wingspan of 7.6–9.3 ft (2.31–2.83 m). It weighs roughly 9.9–17.2 lb (4.5–7.8 kg.) Unlike many of the other vulture species, this bird does not have a bald head. But it does get most of it's food by scavenging. The Bearded Vulture is remarkable as it will take the bones of the dead animal far into the air and drop them on the rocks below to crack them open to expose the edible marrow. They will also feed on tortoises, and use the same technique to open the reptile's shell. The Bateleur Eagle is a medium-sized, stocky raptor native to much of Africa and some small areas of Arabia. The Borneo Red Flying Frog, also known as the Harlequin tree frog, is native to Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. It can be found in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and freshwater marshes. It is threatened by habitat loss. This frog is easy to identify because of it's large sized and distinctive bright red webbed hands and feet (which it uses to help steer it's gliding.)
