Information about the Elf Owl:

The Elf Owl is a small owl native to the the southwestern United States and Mexico. It is the world's lightest owl, although the Long-whiskered Owlet and the Tamaulipas Pygmy Owl are of a similarly diminutive length. The body weight of this species is 1.4 ounce (40 grams). As the name implies, these owls are very small - only 4.9-5.7 inches (12.5 to 14.5 cm) long. Their wingspan is about 10.5 inches wide (27 cm.)They have fairly long legs and often appear bow-legged. They can often be heard calling to one another just after dusk or at sunset. Their call is a high-pitched whinny or chuckle. The male and female dart around trees and call back and forth. The Elf Owl migrates to Arizona and New Mexico in the spring and summer. In the winter, it is found in central and southern Mexico. Migrant Elf Owls return north in mid-August or early May. They live in cacti much like other desert birds, using the shade and climate the tree provides. Elf Owls usually are not aggressive and feign death in any dangerous situation, especially when a threatening animal comes inside their Saguaro cactus. The Emperor Angelfish is a colorful saltwater reef fish. It's a member of the family Pomacanthidae, which contains seven genera and approximately 86 species. These fish are one of the best-known of the saltwater angelfishes. They are medium-sized, reaching a length of about 16 inches (40 cm) when full grown. While the adults are very colorful, the juveniles are strikingly different having a pattern of concentric blue and white lines on a black body. Emperor angelfish are relatively common and, as adults, inquisitive animals which may come quite close to divers. They are found on both coral and rocky reefs from shallow water down to depths of about 50 m. They live in pairs and swim about the reef with graceful unhurried movements. Although generally seen alone, the partner is usually nearby. Emperor angelfish feed predominantly on encrusted sponges with algae but will also eat small invertebrates.

Information about the Emperor Moths:

The Emperor Moth is a moth of the family Saturniidae. It occurs throughout the Palearctic region and is the only member of its family to be found in the British Isles, where it is usually called simply the Emperor Moth. The males are somewhat smaller and have different coloration from the females. The male flies rapidly during the day from mid-April to late June looking for the rather sluggish females, which usually only fly at night. The species inhabits a range of habitats but is most often associated with heathland and moorland. The caterpillar is black and orange at first, later becoming green with black rings and yellow and red spots. The commonest food plant is heather but the species has also been recorded feeding on a huge range of other plants.

Emperor newts - also called the Mandarin Newt or Mandarin Salamander - is a member of the family Salamandridae. It lives in a high, mountainous area of Yunnan, China. They are generally found in ponds or slow moving streams. They grow to be about 8 inches long (20cm) Their bright coloration is a warning to potential predators that they're highly toxic. The toxin in the newts body is released through the orange, warty bumps on its back. This toxic is so lethal it could potentially kill over 7000 mice. It is not especially harmful to human though, and if the newt is handled gently it will not release any toxins. The Emperor Newt feeds on small insects and other invertebrates. Due to habitat loss and climate change their numbers in the wild have been declining.
