The Diana Fritillary Butterfly is a sexually dimorphic (meaning the male's and female's appearance is different) flying insect native to the fields, meadows, forests and wooded areas of the southern US.) They are one of the larger butterflies in North America with a wingspan of about 3-3 7/8 inches (76-98 millimeters.) While their range covers a very large area, they are usually only found in small pockets with areas that can sustain their population. They are under great threat by habitat loss, especially by strip mining. The Diana Fritillary is notable as, unlike most other butterfly species, scatter their eggs on the ground around the host plant rather than on the plant. The larva hatch and then burrow into the ground, where they spend the winter and emerge in the spring. The Diana Fritillary is the official butterfly of the US state of Arkansas. Emperor Moths – Signed Fine Art Print

The Emperor Moth is a moth of the family Saturniidae. It occurs throughout the Palearctic region and is the only member of its family to be found in the British Isles, where it is usually called simply the Emperor Moth. The males are somewhat smaller and have different coloration from the females. The male flies rapidly during the day from mid-April to late June looking for the rather sluggish females, which usually only fly at night. The species inhabits a range of habitats but is most often associated with heathland and moorland. The caterpillar is black and orange at first, later becoming green with black rings and yellow and red spots. Giant Leopard Moth – Signed Fine Art Print

The Giant Leopard Moth is a member of the family family Arctiidae. It's found in much of the Southern and Eastern United States, from New England to Mexico. The moth has a wingspan of 3 inches (about 8 cm). The abdomen is dark blue with orange markings, the male has a narrow yellow line on the sides. Its legs have black and white bands. Adult moths are strictly nocturnal and do not generally fly before nightfall. The caterpillar is of the "Woolly Bear" kind, with a thick coat of black bristles (setae) and red or orange colored bands between its segments which become conspicuous when the caterpillar rolls into a ball for defense.
